Why Choose Counselling?

Life can be challenging.  Sometimes, we need a safe space to unload, exploring the matters on our minds, helping us understand, heal and grow.  I offer that safe, confidential, and supportive space to explore thoughts, feelings, behaviours and actions without judgment, in a bid to lighten your load.  You will be empowered, with insights and approaches to overcome obstacles, build resilience, to achieve a sense of balance and well-being.

Whether you’re facing anxiety, stress, grief or loss I will support you on your journey.  Loss may come in the form of losing a pregnancy, child, job, health, pet, home, finances, partner, friend or family member.  You may feel you have lost ‘you’, your sense of ‘self’ through the menopause, health diagnosis and treatment, and so much more. You may be navigating a major life transition – exams, retirement, pregnancy, divorce, redundancy etc.   You may have no idea what’s wrong and be feeling angry or tearful.

Reaching out for help and support can feel like failing, but in fact its one of the bravest things you can do.  I’m here to make that first step as safe and comfortable as possible.  Our relationship is key, so we’ll work in a way you are comfortable with, and I’ll adjust my style if needed to keep your needs at the centre of all we do.

Please click here to contact me with your specific requirements and we’ll have a chat to see if we can work together.

My Counselling Approach

Person-Centred, Compassionate, and Evidence-Based

I offer person centred therapy, which places you at the centre of the therapeutic process.  I’ll focus on your unique experiences within a warm, empathetic, and non-directive environment, enabling you to express yourself freely.  If you struggle to articulate thoughts and feelings, I’ll flex my approach to support you.  You decide what works for you and what doesn’t. We work in partnership, with me accompanying you on your journey, in a way you feel safe.  All sessions are 50minutes, but scroll down to see ‘steps to getting started…’ for more details.

  • Face to Face: Take a seat & explore your emotions safely in a quiet, comfortable, pleasant garden conservatory in West Horsham.  Nature is just outside and you can leave your worries behind when you depart.  Parking available.
  • Online Sessions: Select a safe, confidential space to sit comfortably.  Make sure you can talk freely, not be overheard, and we’ll connect online.  No travelling, and you can be in an environment where you are comfortable.
  • Walk & Talk: Combine therapy  with the benefits of nature. This approach can increase serotonin hormones that lift our mood, Vitamin D exposure for health benefits, increase social interaction,  supports physical health and gets those steps in.  We can go as slowly as you want, or find a bench to sit.  This approach may reduce the anxiety of sitting opposite me, versus walking side by side. We walk in most weathers, with online or in-person as back up.  I offer sessions and routes in Horsham, West Sussex. We can discuss options.

You may select a blend of all approaches if that works for you.  Start with the first session and we go from there…..

The unalome and lotus flower logo depicts the winding journey through life towards feeling more enlightened and accepting of ourselves.  The crowning lotus flower, (symbolising growth) blooms despite it’s struggle through murky waters.  Sound familiar?  We’ll get through your murky waters together.

Steps to Getting Started in Counselling

Your journey, your pace – counselling sessions are a collaborative process.  We’ll check understanding and questions every step of the way. Here’s what you can typically expect:

  1. Initial enquiry call
We’ll have a free short phone call to discuss your situation, expectations of therapy and for you to decide if you’d like to work with me (possibly continuing to step 2 if you wish to go ahead).
  2. Assessment (continuation of initial call, or after time to think).  We’ll cover further details and ensure we are a good therapeutic partnership.  We’ll agree your first session date & time (pending payment), and whether you would  initially prefer online, in person, or walk & talk.  I’ll send you information to review.  I’ll keep all your details confidential, in line with data protection legislation.
  3. Payment  (£70 per session) is required to confirm your preferred date & time (a minimum of 48hours before your session).  Sessions are not firm bookings unless payment has been received.  You can pay at the end of a session for your next session so you have a fixed next booking.  Payment may be made by bank transfer (details will be provided) or cash in advance.
  4. First session
We’ll review documents, discussing in more detail how we’ll work together.  Following our initial conversation, you then continue sharing whatever is on your mind or you want to work on… and away we go.  Things evolve as you progress through your sessions and we can adapt and change the way we work at any time.
  5. Regular Sessions
Counselling sessions last 50 minutes and can be held weekly or bi-weekly or ad-hoc, depending on your preference and therapeutic needs.   They can be booked in advance or as we go along pending availability.  Ongoing short or longer term sessions provide a space to explore evolving thoughts, develop coping strategies, and work through difficult emotions.
  6. Ongoing Support
I’m committed to supporting you throughout your journey.  Between sessions, I encourage your reflection and may suggest resources or journaling to deepen your self-awareness and progress.  However, we’ll only discuss your thoughts within your sessions.
